- Bellhop/Porter: $1-2 per bag, minimum $5
- Concierge: $5-20 depending on service (dinner reservations, show tickets, etc.)
- Valet: $2-5 each time car is retrieved
- Doorman: $1-2 for hailing a cab, $2-3 for luggage help
- Room Service: 15-20% if gratuity not included
Housekeeping Tips
Leave cash in an envelope marked “Housekeeping” or with a thank-you note so it’s clear it’s a tip. Tip daily rather than at checkout, as different housekeepers may clean your room each day. Tip more if you make extra mess, have extra requests, or stay during holidays.
Concierge Services
Not all concierge services require tips. Simple directions or restaurant suggestions don’t require a tip. Tip for securing hard-to-get reservations, show tickets, or solving problems. The more difficult the request, the larger the tip should be ($5-20+).

Tip $2-5 per night for housekeeping, left daily (different staff clean each day). Leave cash in an envelope marked 'Housekeeping' with a thank you note. Tip more ($5-10/night) if you make extra mess or have special requests.
Tipping front desk staff is not required, but $5-20 is appreciated if they provide exceptional service like upgrading your room, providing restaurant reservations, or solving problems. Concierges should be tipped separately for special services.
Tip $5-20 depending on service complexity. Simple restaurant recommendations don't require tips, but securing hard-to-get reservations, show tickets, or solving problems warrant $10-20+. Complex multi-day assistance deserves $50+.
Tip $2-5 each time your car is retrieved, not when handing off keys. At luxury hotels, $5-10 is more appropriate. If you use valet multiple times daily, $3-5 per retrieval is standard.
Tip $1-2 per bag with a minimum of $5. For heavy bags, many bags (4+), or help to room on upper floors, tip $10-15 total. If they provide extra assistance (explaining room features), add $5.
Check if gratuity is included on the bill (often 18-20% is auto-added). If not, tip 15-20% of the food bill. If gratuity is included, leaving $2-5 cash for the delivery person is still appreciated.
Even at all-inclusive resorts where 'tips are included,' staff rely on tips. Budget $40-60 per couple per week. Tip $1-2 per drink, $2-5 per room service, $5/night for housekeeping, $5 per bag for porters.
